Northern Kentucky University's financial aid teams have faced significant delays due to federal changes to the 2024-25 FAFSA process. The changes have impacted enrollment deadlines and financial aid offers, affecting over 1,700 students at NKU alone. The delays have also impacted Kentucky's community and technical college system, with many students potentially delayed or deterred from college. Despite these challenges, financial aid teams are working to expedite the process and assist students in navigating the complexities of the new FAFSA system.https://lnkd.in/dj9BBTqF

A new FAFSA setback means many college financial aid offers won't come until AprilFamilies and students will have to wait even longer for financial aid offers from colleges and universities. On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Education announced yet another delay in thealready-turbulent FAFSA(Free Application for Federal Student Aid) timeline: The department says it won’t be sending students’ FAFSA data to schools until the first half of March. Previously, it had said it would start sending that data in late January. #FAFSA #Federalstudentaid #highereducation #collegefinancialaid #collegeadmissions https://lnkd.in/esWkhNxT

I am grateful to financial aid professionals everywhere, especially Jeff Ford and Diana Winkle here at College of the Ozarks. I’m also thankful to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) for their diligent work in representing students and families at a House education subcommittee this week. The delayed FAFSA disaster couldn’t come at a worse time for American higher education. This article signals the possibility of next year’s FAFSA being delayed, as this year’s still isn’t functioning at 100%. This is all on the cusp of the decline in high school graduates: Fewer high school graduates and fewer of them completing the FAFSA.What are students to do? If you are interested in debt-free Christian higher education, take a look at College of the Ozarks. Students work on campus in exchange for a scholarship and pay zero tuition. #debtfree #notuition #highereducation #FAFSA #students #financialaid #admissions

This year's FAFSA delays has been especially burdensome to students who have parents without SSNs. Get caught up by reading this explainer on the FAFSA delays on Understanding FAFSA. What you need to know: 1. Don't stop trying to complete the FAFSA. It is working for many families.Another good reason to try now? Plus...the date of FAFSA completion may be a factor if college aid is first-come, first-served.2. Watch for instructions from college financial aid offices. College aid offices have been hit particularly hard by the delays. They are scrambling and may look for other ways to get financial information – albeit provisional– from you so that they can make award offers. 3. Wait to see your financial aid offers, even if they come very late. It's still important to see and compare financial aid offers before you sign an enrollment contract. Communicate this to your college – let them know you need to see all of your letters before you can commit. https://lnkd.in/ey7rKdtB

For students who rely on need-based aid, it will be near impossible to commit to a university prior to February 2024. This year, more than ever, shows the importance of admissions professionals needing to be able to competently walk families through their full financial aid package.#collegeadmissions #fafsa #admissionsprocess

The first step prospective and current college students take toward receiving financial aid is filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA. But due to the bipartisan FAFSA Simplification Act passed in 2020, families are seeing major changes on the 2024-2025 form.If you have questions about SAI, please check out our session here: https://lnkd.in/e9ZRMZSvRead the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e88qXwtd

“We saw this as an opportunity to lead on this issue ... We’re always trying to figure out ways to serve students and families better"Applying for financial aid is even more stressful for students and families this year due to the passage of the FAFSA Simplification Act causing the form to open two months later than normal. However, this fall Assumption University has launched an innovative alternative, the Fast Track Early Aid Offer, to ensure applicants to AU still receive expedited financial aid information. Another Education Win for our students: Universal FAFSA CompletionThe FY 2025 Budget includes Governor Hochul’s plan to require school districts to ensure every high school senior completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the New York State Dream Act Application. Students who choose not to fill out an application must sign a waiver form indicating that they are aware of the available financial aid but choose not to pursue it.The schools are also required to share financial aid resources with high school Seniors and their parents at least twice during their Senior year. Last year, New York’s high school students left over $200 million in federal aid unclaimed by not filling out the FAFSA. With FAFSA submission rates down by 24 percent in New York State this year, Governor Hochul is committed to ensuring students know what aid is available to them and can access that support for college.
